This Indigenous Peoples Day Twende Solar is thrilled to announce an update from the Mushuk Lamas community in northeastern Peru where Twende completed an 7.3kW off-grid solar array with energy storage in early 2019: The nearby municipality of Shapaja provided funding for an additional project to distribute electricity to all of the individual homes in the Mushuk Lamas community from the system Twende built!

With more than 230 volunteer shifts for a total of nearly 1,600 hours, it took just over a month to complete an ambitiously large 100 kW nonprofit solar install for the Portland Rescue Mission. Volunteers came together from four states, two countries, and more than eight competing solar contractor shops--all working side-by-side to empower the women of Shepherd’s Door.
We spoke with Ben, a volunteer on the Maya Jaguar School installation, about his inspiration for volunteering and experience traveling in rural Guatemala.
