Bringing Solar Power to Schools & Empowering the Next Generation of Global Leaders
Be Cool! Connections is a collaborative initiative between Twende Solar and the Be Cool! Campaign that brings clean, reliable electricity to schools without access to power—while creating meaningful cultural connections between students around the world through climate education and music.
Through student-led fundraising, cross-cultural exchange, and real-world climate action, Be Cool! Connections turns solar installations into powerful learning experiences that inspire leadership, climate action, and global citizenship.
How It Works
School-to-School Partnerships: Participating schools are matched with a school in need of electricity, based on project scope and fundraising goals.
Student-Led Fundraising: Students lead creative fundraising efforts in their communities, with all funds supporting the solar installation.
Cultural Exchange: Students connect across borders through letters, photos, and videos—learning about one another’s lives, environments, and aspirations.
Solar Installation & Implementation: Twende Solar works with trusted local partners to design and install the solar system, ensuring long-term reliability and community ownership.
Lasting Impact: The completed solar installation provides the sister school with reliable, clean electricity—powering classrooms, improving learning conditions, and expanding educational opportunities for students and teachers.
Real Results
The Be Cool! Campaign’s pilot project at Wisdom Academy in Nigeria installed a 5kW solar PV system with battery storage, delivering clean energy to 12 classrooms and transforming the learning experience for 200 students.

The Be Cool! Campaign was launched by Music Declares Emergency and The ClimateMusic Project during NY Climate Week 2024 and premiered the music video for the song “I Wanna Be Cool.” It’s an Americana meets The Beatles pop anthem. The video, created by an Emmy-winning Hollywood design studio includes more than 2,500 young people recruited from across the world to sing the chorus and ten award winning vocalists sing on the verses. With a focus on climate action, the Campaign built a partner network focusing actions in 3 areas: inspiring civic engagement; guiding communities for the reduction of emissions; and climate education.
The ClimateMusic Project brings together renowned scientists and world-class musicians to create music and visual experiences to motivate action to address climate change. Since launching in 2015, it has reached many thousands of people worldwide, partnering on programs with global institutions such as The National Academy of Sciences, The World Economic Forum, and The World Bank.
Music Declares Emergency US is a collective of music industry professionals, artists, and organizations collaborating with grassroots climate partners to reduce industry contributions to greenhouse gas emissions. MDE Chapters worldwide have collected over 8,000 signatures supporting a declaration calling for an immediate governmental response to protect all life on Earth. Starting in the UK in 2019, MDE currently has 16 active national chapters. The climate crisis is the greatest challenge of our time, and the power of music should spearhead the movement to create a safer, fairer, more sustainable world. The climate crisis is about science, not politics. There is #NOMUSICONADEADPLANET.
