In the village of Mushuk Lamas in Northern Peru, a woman sits in the doorway of her home where the afternoon sunlight illuminates the threads her hands purposefully weave together, piece by piece. This is Marta. Marta is making one of the belts that the community routinely uses to carry bulky or heavy items up the steep, nearly 4 mile trek to Mushuk Lamas.

It takes Marta about a day and a half to craft a belt, limited previously by the sun as her light source. After the installation of solar panels, Marta, and other members of the Mushuk community will no longer be constrained to the hours of sunlight for their work.

This Giving Tuesday (Dec 3), think about Marta and the social, economic, and liberating impact of your donation. Marta was one of the 2 million Peruvians who provided for her family and lived her life without access to electricity. But now, thanks to generous support from donors like you, Marta can weave in the comfort of her home at any hour.
